The phrase Cosmic Jesus Christ of Nazareth sounds, at first hearing, both majestic and dangerous. It is majestic because the New Testament plainly teaches that Jesus is not merely a local teacher, a moral example, or a religious founder among others. He is the eternal Son of God, the one through whom all things were made, the one in whom all things hold together, the one for whom all things exist, and the one through whose cross God purposes to reconcile all things to himself.
This short book therefore uses the phrase in a strictly biblical sense. By the Cosmic Jesus Christ of Nazareth, we mean that the very Jesus who walked the roads of Galilee, who was born of Mary, who preached the kingdom, who was crucified under Pontius Pilate, and who rose bodily from the dead, is also the eternal Son through whom the worlds were made and by whom the worlds are governed.
